Sarah Orton is an artist originally from the Glade, BC. She was first introduced into the Follies at 14 years old as a singer and support cast, and then welcomed back again in her graduating year of high-school with a lead role. Following that summer, she went on to receive a diploma in Vocal Performance from Selkirk College Music & Technology program, formed an indie-rock band and began writing music and performing coast to coast, relocating to the city to pursue music further. Now the vocalist in the Alt-Soul band Penny Shades, 2021 FACTOR grant recipients, Sarah has recorded vocals as a session singer for numerous acts from all over the country. She currently works remotely from her studio in the Kootenays as a professional voice-actor with representation from one of Canada’s top casting agencies, Ta-Da! Voiceworks in Toronto. Outside of recording, Sarah teaches voice and plays guitar in The Metre Maids, a Beatles cover band. She is the proud recipient of the Canada Arts Council Explore & Create Grant, Creative BC – Career Development Grant, and BC Arts Council Professional Development Program. Other personal career highlights include: Opening for Canadian rock legends SLOAN with her former band Tofu Stravinsky, mentoring as a songsmith with Nik Keca, engineer for Shania Twain and owner of Recording Arts Canada, and singing under the Mojave desert sky with JDS. She is excited to be co-producing new material for her solo project in 2022.
“I have the fondest memories of my time with the GFF cast members and summers in beautiful Rossland. I still remember the nervousness of my first audition to the endless support from everyone involved… Ray pushing me to memorize my lines! Vocal and dance warm-ups as a collective, and the laughs …oh the laughs. Grateful to have had this opportunity, I never would have imagined then that acting would have found its way back into my life. It was a foundation for me for sure!”
